The Bund Garden police are clueless about the identity and whereabouts of the autorickshaw driver who had allegedly assaulted a senior citizen and her daughter on Friday evening.

The suspect, against whom Sohaila (40) and her mother Bilkish Merchant (80) had lodged a complaint, had allegedly thrashed the duo after they refused to pay an additional Celtic FC Rs50 to him apart from the actual fare of Rs25 for ferrying them from Jehangir Hospital to their residence at Mangaldas Road. Sohaila had managed to snatch the badge from the driver during the scuffle.

The police on Tuesday had picked up one Giridhar Rathod for possessing the badge with the same number. But later it was found that he was in possession of a genuine badge and the erring auto driver's badge was a fake one.

"The details provided by the victims about the suspect are not enough to prepare his sketch," said senior police inspector Suhas Nadgouda. He said the victims did not note the registration number of the vehicle making the job of the police difficult.

The Bund Garden police had sent head constable Ashok Bansode to two addresses furnished by the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Tuesday. He visited the homes belonging to Rathod, at 355, Somwar Peth and survey no. 49 in Rajendranagar, Wadgaon sheri.

Later, Rathod was taken to the Mangaldas police chowki for an inquiry and identification parade. He produced his badge no. 48507 before the police and argued that he was not involved in the case, as he was home-bound with severe arthritis for the past three years.

Holiday haven has it all

I blame my demise on the deer. It came trotting up behind me, giving me such a start that I blew my well-camouflaged colour and promptly paid the penalty. My grandson Will, or one of the other members of his guerrilla platoon, eliminated me with a laser gun.

The deer, suffice to say, just carried on as if nothing had happened, while all around was mayhem of a military sort.

It was the second afternoon of our weekend stay at Center Parcs, Longleat, and the two of us, Will and I, were participating in a woodland shoot-out using some state-of-the-art laser guns.

We were on opposing sides in a cleverly constructed mock battleground in a woodland glade on this vast leisure site which abuts the famous Longleat Estate.

It was great fun as grown men and their sons, daughters - and grandsons! - blasted away harmlessly in various combative team games.

For an hour or more I felt as if I was a kid again and that's saying something because that was an awfully long time ago.

At the end we just both hopped on our hired bikes and headed back to our accommodation deep in another part of the woods which make up so much of this cleverly constructed complex.

Our arrival coincided with that of my wife who was returning from a far more leisurely and relaxing hour or two having a facial at the impressive Aqua Sana spa.

And that's one of the great things about a stay at a Center Parcs. The place is one of constant contrasts.

We'd checked in on Friday teatime after a short drive from Bristol and formalities are few and far between.

A few minutes later we were settling into our accommodation, a Woodland Lodge. Clever design means you don't notice any of the other lodges around you and the woods and wildlife are, literally, on your doorstep. The nice thing is that you can't leave cars cluttering the place up, either. After unloading you are asked to go and park them in the huge car park elsewhere on the site.

Now, while not essential, bikes are a good idea here because Center Parcs Longleat is a vast site with its many and various attractions dotted about the place.

Our lodge, all three of us agreed, wanted for nothing. It really was well-equipped and looked good, too. A lot of thought had gone into it.

In truth, though, we didn't hang around too long as Will wanted to head down to the main hub of the site to see what was what.

It's here you find the superb "Sub-Tropical Swimming paradise" aquatic feature for which Center Parcs has become known. Wonderfully warm, you can be outdoors cascading along a fast-flowing flume one minute and indoors bobbing up and down to a wave machine the next. It's really impressive.

It's here, too, that the shops and a number Coach Boston Bag of the on-site restaurants are situated. In total there are 13 food and drink outlets, including a very good takeaway home delivery service.

We decided before we left home that we would eat out each night and two of those evenings were spent at the grandson's favourite venue, Cafe Rouge. The other was another indulgence for him, a pizza in Strada. Be warned, though, the noise level here when it's busy (and it really does get busy) can be rather high.

Self-catering wouldn't have been a problem, though, as the lodge came with a full size oven, lar

Gillard's absence at forum put

PRIME MINISTER John Key has found himself in the unusual position of having to defend Australia's record in the Pacific in the absence of his Australian counterpart at the Pacific Islands Forum.

With an election looming, Australia's Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has stayed at home and several reporters at the forum in Vanuatu have instead turned to Mr Key, asking him whether or not Australia had neglected the Pacific and what his thoughts on handbags c the election outcome were.

After staying in Kevin Rudd's shadow at last year's forum in Cairns, this year Mr Key has also had to front on Fiji after claims by its interim ruler Frank Bainimarama that Australia and New Zealand were not real Pacific countries.

Mr Key was asked about claims the Rudd government had neglected to make gains in its time as chair of the Pacific forum and the faltering of a pilot seasonal employment scheme similar to New Zealand's RSE scheme.

Ms Gillard was also criticised by some for not attending the forum and instead sending Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith.

Mr Key said he rejected the assertion Australia was not committed to the region, saying that in the time he had worked with Australia's government it had been "very focused" on the Pacific and offered support and assistance.

He tacitly acknowledged there were problems with Australia's seasonal employment scheme by offering New Zealand's help. He said New Zealand had proven the scheme could work "and we're happy to work alongside the Australians, if it would help them".

He would not be drawn into predicting an election outcome, saying only "it looks like it's going to Louis_Vuitton_Bags be close. Who knows, I'll leave that to the Australian people".

Mr Key met Ms Gillard's fill-in, Mr Smith, yesterday to talk about issues due to be raised at the Leaders' Retreat today. Fiji will again be discussed and Mr Key said the other leaders appeared to be united in the view that Fiji should remain suspended from the forum until elections were evident.

The progress of regional free- trade talks and measures to make the most of new funding for small countries to cope with climate change are on the agenda.

Four of the 16 Pacific region leaders are not attending the annual meeting which is usually considered one of the most important on the Pacific calendar.

Others absent were Solomon Islands Prime Minister Derek Sikua, remaining at home for elections yesterday, and Tuvalu Prime Minister Apisai Ielemia who was preparing for elections next month. Papua New Guinea's Sir Michael Somare pulled out at the last minute to deal with trouble in his government.

Gillette edges Central in 1-0

By David Watson

SHERIDAN - Defense was dominant during the Class 4A girls semifinal game Friday at the State Soccer Tournament.

Neither Cheyenne Central nor Gillette would break on the back line after bending in windy conditions at the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

Gillette junior midfielder Sheree Small took advantage of having the wind at her back to start the second half when she sent the Lady Camel's first corner kick of the game in the perfect spot for sophomore midfielder Brittany Lacek to head the ball on a laser past Central sophomore goalkeeper Kelley Fisher.

"I could tell that as soon as Sheree kicked that she had the perfect ball, and I just followed it through," Lacek said. "I just did it like we practiced and got it in. I knew it was mine and nobody was going to stop me."

The only goal of the game proved to be all that was needed to send the Lady Camels (13-2) to today's championship match against Laramie. The Lady Indians (10-4-2) will meet Cheyenne East at 11 a.m. to decide third place.

"I am very happy with the way played," Central coach Scott Foster said. "We had some opportunities that we just didn't quite get into the net in the second half.

"In the first half, we needed to shoot more from the outside, which was probably our shortcoming."

Driven with the wind at their backs, Central dominated the ball in the first half for seven shots and five on goal.

"We started out really strong and were using our wings and forwards in the first half by passing and moving off the ball well," Central senior forward Rebecca Ditto said.

The Lady Indians' defense allowed just two shots that were not between the pipes.

Zenith Grande Class

"We have played so well together and really picked it up," senior defender Kelly Bohnenblust said. "Today was hard because we made just one mistake and that is what lost the game for us."

Gillette made several adjustments during halftime to put more pressure on Central, starting with keeping possession of the ball while moving up the field.

"We were doing the best we could to stop the give-and-go's that they were getting," Central sophomore defender Christie Schiel said. "But when we gave up that corner, they capitalized and finished when they got the chance.

"We cannot give up plays like that because a good team like Gillette knows how to finish."

The Lady Indians' sense of urgency steadily increased to try and send the game into overtime as they tallied four shots with two on goal in the final five minutes.

"We knew we only had a couple minutes left and were hungry for that goal," Ditto said. "But we should have been pushing that hard for whole second half."

I don't speak with Salman SRK

He's 'King' of the world all right. Shah Rukh Khan, who stands up for what he believes in and he is grateful, above all, for the success and support he's got from his fans, speaks about his controversies in a more forgiving fashion.

Truly, he's a bigger global icon than anyone else at this point in time - Brad Pitt included (if Time magazine is to be believed). The Badshah of Bollywood gave some memorable quotes in a question-and-answer session with Zoom recently. Some excerpts...

You were missing in action most of 2009, but 2010 seems to be the year of 'Khan'... We have to give other actors a chance. So I thought, Replica watches let people make hay while the sun is away. I'm just kidding.

That sounds slightly bad... It sounds little harsh, I guess. I do about two-three films and I like working more than that, but it kind of takes away from me as a person. But then there must be a reason. I must've done something wrong to get injured (shoulder). I'm overdone, with all the sins paid for. And thirdly, I got a chance to spend quality time with my kids. If I spend time with them now, they won't be as whacky and bad as I am.

Farah Khan is making her next with Akshay Kumar. How much has that changed your friendship and equation with her? Personally, it hasn't. People assume this question will anger me. It doesn't bother me. She has done a film with me. Now she's doing one with someone else. I'm not going to ask her why she did that. It's her choice. I don't want to sound rude to anyone, but the films I do as an actor are the most important to me. I'm so caught up in this world of what I'm doing and the people who're working with me. That is my whole social and professional life. So if you are not working with me, I'm not wishing you good or bad. But I wish her the best. She's a great filmmaker. She doesn't tell me not to work with XYZ actor, so how can I tell her?

How's your equation with Aamir? I think many a time, Aamir has misconstrued my sense of humour and now he has countered it with his sense of humour, and I respect that. But I've never had any ill-will or any disturbing fallouts with Aamir. I often find him saying things, of course, if it's interesting, then it's all right, because I too have a sense of humour. Also, it gives me a license to be funny about Aamir whenever I want. Earlier I used to call him and Replica watches ask him, "Aamir, I'm making this joke, is it ok?" Now I don't need to ask him. We can say whatever we want. He's a marvelous guy, amazingly concentrated, conscientious, an absolutely focused film actor; one of the greatest of our times. At times we meet and call, and sometimes I go and watch his films. He is very interested that people see his films and talk about it. We have a warm relationship. But I don't think we have an issue-based relationship. In the words of Aamir Khan, 'All Izz Well'.

Have matters cooled down with Salman? No, I don't speak with Salman. And I think even he chooses not to; which is absolutely all right. We're two different people, very happy in our spaces, and very good in our spaces. And I think it should remain like that. But it's not animosity, it's not anger, and it's not disturbing. People ask if we avoid each other at public places; frankly, we don't. If we do meet what are we going to do? I'm happy for his films and I'm happy if he's at peace; because when I came to Mumbai, his family and he were wonderful to me and my family, and they still continue to be. They are amazingly nice and gentle people. Only two people amongst them have an issue and I think we're too old and set to try and resolve it in any other way. Salman and I are settled 'in' our differ

I fear Torres is set for parti

DESPITE the club's attempts to play down reports that Fernando Torres is on his way, I fear that a parting of the ways now looks inevitable.

If you're a player and you weren't going to move then surely you'd come out and issue a statement to tell all the fans that you're staying.

First we had Roy Hodgson telling us that he'd had a 'pleasant' meeting with Torres but his "beef is with the club, not me," then the manager says that the feedback he's been getting from managing director Christian Purslow over the matter has been 'positive.' However, we are yet to hear anything from the player himself on the matter and I take that as bad news as much as anything.

Replica watches

It's a similar situation with Javier Mascherano really only that the people around the Argentine seem to be a bit more vocal.

Players should have the decency, integrity and honesty to come out and tell everyone that they see their future elsewhere rather than keeping us all in the dark, hanging on and waiting.

Tell us you "want to play in the Champions League" or whatever but just let the club and the fans know.

If that happened then at least Liverpool would have five weeks or so to bring in some replacements and everybody could move on.

It's not even like the old days when you'd nervously have to knock on the manager's door and a figure like Bill Shankly might give you a real dressing down for having the temerity to want to leave Liverpool.

Now you just get your agent to contact the club by phone and he might not even speak directly to the manager and go straight to the chief executive.

Replica watches

Even though I'm a former professional myself I just don't understand it anymore in regards to the way these players treat their employers and also the fans.

The bottom line is that Torres just hasn't played enough games for Liverpool over the past 12 months.

He might have struggled to reach his own high standards in the World Cup but I don't think that his transfer value will take much of a hit as everyone knows players of his class are few and far between.

A more immediate concern for Liverpool is Thursday's Europa League tie in Macedonia. The timing of this competitive match is awful for Hodgson but he knows that this is a competition they have a good chance of winning if they can just battle their way through these early summer rounds.

Hodgson says Replica watches that he's been told by the club's doctors not to use any of his World Cup players in this round but what kind of irreparable damage do they think is going to happen to them if they are forced to turn out.

It's just that they haven't played for a couple of weeks, none of them are actually carrying injuries.

Of course there's a chance that they could pick up a knock or two but that can happen in any match.

I remember all too well Rafael Benitez resting players for early season fixtures so that they'd be fresh come February time but by then it was too late because Liverpool could be out of the running in several competitions.

The days of players coming back for the new season totally unfit after their summer break are long-gone as players understand what they need to do to look after their bodies

PACESETTERS

A WEDDING IN JULY. The bride and her groom barely got time off to get married, goodness! Liezlnina Jacinto, youngest daughter of Rupert and Tina Jacinto, and her fianceYukimura Sato flew in from New York just three days before their big day because they had to work until the weekend. So preparations were left entirely to the brides parents who were getting all the prewedding jitters. But a lovely wedding it turned to be.

Liezl looked so pretty, friends were saying that she looked just like her mom when Tina (nee Hidalgo) married Rupert. Pitoy Morenos Japanese inspired bridal gown complemented Liezls petite figure and her Bulgari diamond tiara, on loan from ninong Mario Katigbak, was just the perfect finishing touch! The bias cut strapless gown in silk duchess satin had a long train cinched by an upturned bow and studded with Swarovski beads and jewel stones.

Eighteen guests and members of the wedding party flew in from the United States. These included the brides older sister Jacqueline Jacinto who was the maid of honor and the best man, Kenho Osawa. The grooms dad Masaharu Sato, sister Ayaka Sato, a bridesmaid, and Mika Take flew in from Japan. The grooms mother Masako Gibeault couldnt make it.

Also from United States are bridesmaids Justina Antonio Jacinto (married to the brides brother Jeremy), Melinda Tait and Victoria Cuesta; groomsmen Jeremy Jacinto, Jeff Tait, Jeff Castaneda, Peter Zuratynsky, Jody Jacinto and David Snyder.

The 12 pairs of principal sponsors were headed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, escorted by ninong Executive Secretary Alberto Romulo, along with Senators Loren Legarda, Manuel Villar, and Ramon Magsaysay Jr., Secretary Josefina Lichauco, Imelda Cojuangco, Chito Madrigal Collantes, Ambassador Bienvenido Tantoco, Mayor Jejomar Binay, former PM Cesar Virata, Arch. Lor Calma, Menchu Concepcion, Doris Ho, Cynthia Pastor, Arch. Ramon Antonio, Mario Katigbak, David Lim, Sandie Poblador, Ramon Hidalgo and Ethel Timbol. Aida David Cancio and Ambassador Alfonso were proxied by Rizalino Navarro and Evangeline Pascual.

Secondary sponsors were Clarissa and Angelo Hidalgo, Ana Tan and Paul Santos, Mika Taki and Jody Jacinto. Ringbearer was Jose Ramil Carlos; flowergirls Ma. Angela Sofia Carlos and Alexia Dagondon.

The mass and nuptials were officiated by Fr. Jerry Manlangit as main celebrant, and Fr. Toru Nishimoto, CSsR who blessed the couple in Japanese.

At the Santuario de San Antonio at Forbes Park, the Pasamba Quartet set an inspiring mood with their music with a lovely soloist singing Our Father which brought tears to our eyes. At the reception, concert pianist Dean Raul Sunico gifted the newlyweds with Rhapsody in Blue. Its too bad, nobody checked if the piano had been properly tuned.

The presidental table was set in the middle of the Rigodon ballroom for the newlyweds and their sponsors. We felt like we were sitting in a Van Gogh painting styled by florist Tony Padilla and Albert Avellana in picturesque elegance. The flower arrangements were indeed works of art as Rupert described it.

Johnny Litton led the toast for Liezl and Yuki before dinner was served. For main entree, we had a choice of salmon or ribeye steak following the appetizer of spiced prawns and a delicious creamy soup. Dessert was absolutely sinful. The wines were specially selected by Tita Trillo for the wedding.

We decided the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood was a bit too hot for her, and this looked a better opportunity. She's in good form and we hope she can give Swiss Fake away the 3lb penalty."

Luca Cumani, trainer of Becqu Adoree "It was good to see her finish her race off more strongly than she had at Haydock and Warwick, and she might well have been fourth had she not encountered trouble in running. She handled the fast ground perfectly well, but it will Fake Movado Watches be interesting to see how she fares on easier ground again over here now that she has rediscovered her form, as she handled soft conditions well when progressive in France last year."

Marco Botti, trainer of Lady Artemisia "The Newmarket form is obviously good, and a mile and a half is her best trip. Being by Montjeu we always thought she wanted some dig, but we know now she handles fast ground. She's in good nick, but it's a competitive race."

William Muir, trainer of Saphira's Fire "She seems in good shape and she's moving great. If she reproduced her best form she'd win, but I don't know what to expect of her the way mine are running." Anna Lisa Balding, wife of Andrew, trainer of Pipette "She needs some rain, but if they have a few millimetres she'll run. She's in good form, and she deserves to win. I think the trip will suit her."

Anton Pearson, assistant to Peter Winkworth, trainer of Shimmering Surf "The trip is right and she's in good form - the one worry is that even more than Tropical Paradise, our Group 3 winner at Goodwood on Thursday, she would want softer ground ideally. I expect her to run well, though."

Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Wedding March "She's not run since May because she wasn't showing a lot in the morning and so we took her out of Fake Gucci training. She's looking well."

Details emerge on McDonnell's

By David Sherfinski

Examiner Staff Writer

Virginia officials are weighing options ranging from partnerships to profit-sharing for Gov. Bob McDonnell's highly touted plan to Christian Dior Handags Replica privatize the state's liquor stores -- with a plan to auction retail licenses getting particular support.

Models for the governor's plan -- a central tenet of his 2009 gubernatorial campaign -- include four options:

In the first, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control would continue to control operation of spirit sales, but private retailers would receive a profit share and act as agents of the state to sell liquor.

The second would allow a private company or partnership to purchase the commission's assets and revenue stream and operate the system under a long-term lease.

The third option would privatize the wholesale and retail side of the ABC, allow liquor licensees to sell spirits offsite, and significantly increase distilled spirit retail outlets statewide. There are currently 332 outlets in the state.

Yves Saint Laurent Replica Handbags

The fourth is similar to the full privatization model, but would auction retail licenses to the highest bidder and limit the number of licenses to somewhere between 400 and 1,000.

The latter two options would generate an estimated upfront windfall of $300 million to $500 million and an estimated $240 million annually, according to the governor's office.

Eric Finkbeiner, McDonnell's top policy adviser, said Tuesday the fourth proposal "seems to get a few more head nods" than the others, according to McDonnell spokeswoman Stacey Johnson.

Clip on charms

But Johnson added that nothing has been decided: "I would say all four are definite possibilities."

The plan must generate more annual revenue than the state brings in from alcohol sales to win his support, said Del. Dave Albo, R- Fairfax. Last year, liquor sales generated about $220 million in revenue.

"I would like to see something the business community is happy with," he added.

But Del. Kenny Alexander, D-Norfolk, chairman of Virginia's Legislative Black Caucus, said that though the state may see an initial windfall from privatizing the liquor stores, it needs more than a "one-time pop" for its transportation needs.

"You need a dedicated source of revenue that's sustainable," he said.

Mazda offers joy at low cost

DIESEL isn't always the best choice for motorists looking to save money. If you're going to cover a medium to modest mileage and aren't overly concerned with performance, a small petrol engine could be just the ticket.

There's an even greater chance of finding love and happiness with a car that quaffs unleaded if it happens to use the 1.6-litre petrol engine found in the latest Mazda3.

Such 1.6-litre engines are the staple powerplants of family hatch- sized cars.

There's been a growth in smaller turbocharged petrol engines recently, but the simplicity and suitability of a good 1600cc unit still seems an ideal fit with this size of car.

It was only fitting, therefore, that Mazda should put one in its latest generation '3' hatch and it's handy that the engine in question has turned out to be quite so good.

Pittsburgh Penguins

While the bottom end of the Mazda3 range isn't where the magic happens, the 1.6-litre engine is far from dull - if you get excited by engine technology.

It's an in-line four-cylinder engine with 16 valves and double overhead cam shafts.

It also features sequential valve timing, a low-speed cam and an exhaust gas recirculation system.

We won't go into the details here, but its advanced stuff for a petrol engine in a Pounds 15,000 hatchback.

The outcome of the unit's clever layout is a 105bhp maximum power output and torque of 145Nm at 4,000rpm, giving rise to a 12.2s nought to 60mph sprint.

On performance, it's well down on the diesel 1.6-litre engine that's also available in the Mazda3 and it struggles at times, particularly with a big weight on board.

It feels eager on the flat though and doesn't get too noisy at cruising speeds.

The lack of outright grunt from the 1.6-litre unit can easily be forgiven because the Mazda3 is a real joy on the road.

Based on the same basic underpinnings as the Ford Focus, it had a head start in the handling stakes.

Unlike the majority of its rivals, it has independent suspension for all four wheels.

This higher-tech approach manifests itself in the form of a more supple, fluid feel on the road.

The Mazda3 rides well, soaking up the worst of the bumps but letting you know what's going on at the wheels.

The steering is responsive and the car changes direction sweetly, keeping body lean on a tight leash.

Saloon or five-door hatchback body styles are offered, but the hatch will be the most popular in the UK.

Swiss Replica DateJust Fluted Bez Lady Rolex Watches

The absence of a three-door model seems a shame considering the sporting flavour of the 3. Still, the good-looking five-door should be enough for most.

The 1.6-litre engine might be the entry-level choice in the Mazda3 range, but buyers choosing it shouldn't be disappointed. It's a hi-tech unit with decent economy, low emissions and an attractive list price.

Performance isn't spectacular, but the Mazda3 is one of the best drivers' cars in a family hatch sector with lots of worthy contenders.

Its strengths are its fine chassis and

McGREGOR Comfortable

Had to stay on his toes with Hamilton keen to shoot from distance but rarely in any danger. Barely got his gloves dirty.

WHITTAKER Decisive

The match-winner. Had last chance in regulation time, then put Rangers in front in extra time before adding a spectacular second. Earlier booked for diving.

WEIR Composed

Hublot Replica Watches

Coped well with Antoine-Curier and had precious little else to do. Strolled forward to add a physical presence at Rangers' corner kicks but failed to trouble Cerny. Booked for his role in lame shoving match.

WILSON Classy

Strolled through it. Stuck to his defensive patch, no sign of any Bougherra-style runs up the park, although Rangers could have done with it. Header from a corner cleared off the line.

PAPAC Dynamic

Rangers' best player, offering a dynamic presence up and down the left flank. Unlucky to not score in first half after great mazy dribble, and set Miller up with brilliant run and cross.

DAVIS Tenacious

Plugged away but with little reward. Couldn't direct first-half header on target after good play by Whittaker. Great ball to Miller for Rangers' first goal.

McCULLOCH Ineffective

Plenty of endeavour but little ingenuity from the deep-lying midfielder. Weak second-half effort barely tested Cerny. Stupid booking for kicking the ball away. Versace_high_boots

THOMSON Disappointing

Enjoyed an intriguing midfield duel with Neil but seemed off the pace for large chunks of the match. Replaced by Broadfoot as Rangers chased a late winner in regulation time.

FLECK Inconsistent

Struggled to get into the game although improved in the second half. Saw his ferocious first-half shot brilliantly stopped by Cerny and had a couple of efforts after the break saved as well.

MILLER Unlucky

On another night could have had a hat-trick. Early shot well saved by Cerny then should have scored when set up by Papac. Struck the bar twice in the first half, denied twice by the keeper in the second. Saw Whittaker nick his goal in extra time. Picked up a late injury.

NOVO Dogged

Asked to patrol the right wing and did so eagerly, albeit it often wasteful with his final ball. Great chance to put Rangers in front in second half but wasted chance.

BROADFOOT Bright

On to add fresh impetus and almost immediately set up Miller for a golden chance.

ANDY LITTLE Versatile

Replaced Novo who seemed to be struggling with an injury.

Pair decide to Play Ball!

BY COURT WILLS

PETERSBURG -- Imagine a place that you could talk about sports all day and still manage to get a few free tidbits or two while receiving the best bang of your buck.

Come to Play Ball! Sporting Goods at 7812 Boydton Plank Road and get a one-on-one experience from two best friends -- one a former Major League baseball player Mike Christopher, assistant baseball coach at Dinwiddie High School, and Jeff Russell.

If you have seen the movie "The Rookie" with Dennis Quaid in which he as a little boy moved to a small town in Texas and all he wanted was to find a baseball glove, then you know how special a place this is as Quaid found great friends in the shop that he could talk sports and that he could eventually bring his son to love as well.

The same supportive, close-knit and inviting feeling one got while watching that film is what you will find coming to Play Ball! Sporting Goods. And across the hall, one can stock up on hunting and fishing gear while making a stop at the local cafe.

It is not about making the average dollar but making an impression that will make you come back again and again.

Especially in a time where money is tight and customer service is everything, this is a store that will leave you wanting more.

Zenith Grande Class

"Jeff and I have known each other since high school playing baseball. We've hunted with each other and now I get to coach [Russell's] son on the Dinwiddie baseball team," Christopher said. "It was just all of a sudden that the idea crossed my mind. It was always in the back of your mind that it would be pretty neat to own your sporting goods store and here we are."

Christopher spent 12 years in baseball, two in the majors and the other 10 encompassing seven Minor League championships with the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Born and raised on Church Road in Dinwiddie it was always a dream to become a pro baseball player and now being back in his hometown, servicing and being around good friends and family has brought life to another venture in this store.

"This is a great second profession. [Russell's] son, Kyle and my son, Nick, started playing ball from little league to now high school and we wish we had a store like this for us," Christopher said.

Kyle Russell plays mainly third base or second base while Nick Christopher is a pitcher and plays shortstop or outfield.

"We know when coming through Dinwiddie is a big sports county where there is great baseball tradition and now softball tradition," Christopher said. "It's a lot about being locally owned but at the same time we understand that one county can't support us, we are open to all of the Tri-Cities coming in."

While despite getting a slow start to the baseball and softball seasons, it's better late than never for Russell.

"I know for me what I've spent on my son Kyle and it's expensive. But what we want to do here is make sure we can give you a good deal while still giving you a good product. It's not all about making money, it's about making people come back."

As of right now, Play Ball! sells mainly baseball and softball equipment from gloves, to bats to scorebooks to clothing.

Another bonus is that Christopher and Russell will buy and sell used goods at the stor

Marijuana rally unencumbered

About 50 people - one carrying an 11-day-old baby - gathered outside the State House yesterday, some smoking marijuana, to advocate the drug's legalization. It was a typical "420" event, except no one left in handcuffs.

And that meant no arrest footage for YouTube with headlines like one out of a recent Nashua rally: "Police Attack Freedom Celebration."

That was intentional.

On Monday, Concord police Chief Robert Barry said his department would treat the rally as "business as usual." If the station received a complaint about noise or drug use while the rally participants were on city property, officers would respond, he said.

The state police, whose jurisdiction includes the State House lawn, took the same approach. Troopers watched from across the street but didn't come closer than that. The low-key approach seemed to disappoint some activists.

"Maybe they are going to pick us off one by one as we leave," one man said to another.

Marijuana enthusiasts have long made their support for legalizing the drug Russia known by smoking marijuana publicly at 4:20 p.m., a tradition with an origin layered in legend.

The rally comes one day before the Senate is set to vote this on a bill decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana. Yesterday's rally was a double celebration of sorts: It was held at 4:20 p.m. on April 20.

New Hampshire supporters have been holding marijuana protests throughout the state, in Keene, Manchester and Nashua. Yesterday, it was the State House lawn. Gov. John Lynch didn't respond to a request made by bullhorn to come outside and have a smoke.

Michael Cogswell, 27, Dustin Anderson, 29, and Kelsey Rae Erickson, 21 - students from NHTI - weren't smoking marijuana yesterday. But they said they'd like to be able to do so legally.

"I really wasn't a supporter before because we all grew up on DARE," said Erickson, who went to school in Hopkinton. "They told us drugs were bad. But I smoked (marijuana) for the first time when I was 17, and it made my stomach problems feel better.

"I've never been arrested," she said. "But if I have to get arrested for this, let it be."

Anderson said he opposes jailing people, especially young people, for marijuana crimes. "I've seen young kids who are kind of hippies go to jail and when they come out they are on like 10 different drugs," he said.

Katie Price, 20 and a respite care worker from Chichester, came to Concord yesterday to show the public that people do support legalizing marijuana. She was holding a sign instead of a joint yesterday.

"If you're not hurting anyone, what's the problem?"

A 19-year-old Manchester woman who would only give her first name, Cassidy, brought along her 11-day-old son. She initially hesitated to bring him but then decided the cause was too important to miss.

"The war on drugs is a war on us," she said. "This is a victimless crime. I believe when there is no victim, there is no crime."

The country, she said, should be spending its money and energy on something more important than policing marijuana use.

The young mother said she's given up marijuana Porcelain pendant since having her son. "I've got more im

Navy contract could be good ne

The U.S. Navy is expected to make a decision this summer that could keep a local manufacturer busy for years to come.

The Navy will choose one of two competing designs for its new littoral combat ship, or LCS.

One of those designs, by Lockheed Martin, includes massive diesel engines built in Beloit by Fairbanks Morse Engine.

If the Lockheed Martin version wins the contract, Fairbanks Morse likely would build engines for about 55 ships, said John Bottorff, Fairbanks Morse vice president for human resources.

"It's a considerable amount of work for our plant, so it's a pretty big deal," Bottorff said.

Bottorff was cautious about how that might affect employment at the Fairbanks Morse plant in Beloit, which now employs about 325.

If the plant didn't get the contract, "it would have a negative impact on our employment," Bottorff said. "It would not add a ton of jobs, but it would stabilize our employment for years to come, and over time it would build up our workforce a little bit."

Two Fairbanks Morse engines already are powering the first littoral combat ship on active duty. Christened the USS Freedom, its maiden voyage reportedly included successful operations against drug smugglers in the Gulf of Mexico.

Croatia

Marinette Marine in northern Wisconsin built the USS Freedom. The shipbuilder is building a second littoral combat ship in Marinette, with another pair of Fairbanks Morse diesels.

State Sen. Judy Robson, D-Beloit, recently wrote to the secretary of the Navy and the White House Council for Auto Communities and Workers, pleading the case for the Wisconsin-based ship.

Robson's letters noted the grave job losses in Rock County in recent years.

General Dynamics and shipbuilder Austal have built a prototype of the competing design and are building a second, according to news reports. Austal builds ships in Mobile, Ala., also in a region hit hard economically because of the Gulf oil spill.

Reuters reported this month that the Navy's commitment to build the next 10 littoral combat ships could come as late as August.

Bottorff said Congress and the Navy appear to be committed to building all 55 of the warships.

Gov. Jim Doyle announced last month that his administration had put together $49 million in tax credits to support Marinette Marine and suppliers around the state.

Doyle said more than 250, mostly small, Wisconsin suppliers would benefit.

The contract would create up to 2,200 new jobs at the Marinette shipyard for a total of 5,000 jobs statewide, Doyle said in a May 25 news release.

"In terms of job creation and economic impact, the LCS project would be like bringing a big, new auto plant to northeast Wisconsin," Doyle's news release says.

Fairbanks Morse has heard positive reports about the performance of the USS Freedom, Bottorff said, adding:

"We're hopeful and confident that the Navy will make the decision to go with the Lockheed Martin vessel."

The U.S. Navy's littoral combat ship is designed to be very fast, operate in shallow and watches-v deep waters and to complete missions now performed by several types of ships. Here are some details about the f

Neill leaves with 'head held h

The tie might have been off for Environment Canterbury (ECan) chairman Alec Neill's last day, but the gloves stayed on.

Some regional councillors held bitter protests outside ECan's Kilmore St offices yesterday, but a relaxed Neill chose to bow out gracefully.

"I have no regrets that I have had the opportunity to become chairman," he said.

"That opportunity has provided me with the chance to learn some new skills in areas of governance and to make friends and connections, and changes within Environment Canterbury that I'm quite proud of."

The Government sacked the 14 councillors after a review of ECan's performance found water management in the region was being botched. From Monday, seven Government-appointed commissioners will run ECan, and there will be no elections until at least 2013.

Neill, 59, entered Parliament in Zenith Baby Star 1990 as Waitaki MP before losing his job in 1996 with the advent of MMP. His electorate was abolished and he failed to get into Parliament on National's list.

Is he bitter about being sacked, given National is in power?

"No. It's pointless to generate negative energy, and it's far better to look at other opportunities than dwell on what you might have done," he said.

"When I walk out of here tonight I do so with my head held high, believing I have given of my best, and that's all one can ask."

He poked one jab at the Government, in the wake of Agriculture Minister David Carter's comments this week that sacking ECan's councillors was a "signal" to all regional councils to work more constructively with farmers.

Neill said the commissioners had been well-selected and had "extremely high competence", adding: "In my view, they will serve Canterbury well, provided there's not too much much interference at a central government level."

He may not have achieved his aim of improving relations with the Government during his reign, but he believed he had somewhat repaired ECan's relationship with Canterbury's mayors.

shoe wholesalers

It was a letter from the region's mayors to the Government complaining about ECan's performance that was widely credited with starting the body's decline.

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, head of the Canterbury Mayoral Forum, said last night that Neill had done an outstanding job since he toppled former chairman Sir Kerry Burke last September but was "handed a hospital pass".

"I think if we had his skill set at the helm six years ago, perhaps things could have been different," Parker said. At ECan's offices, the cardboard boxes were out and paintings were being removed from Neill's wall.

After 20 years of political life, from next week he will be back practising law at Lane Neave's Papanui office and continue as a resource management hearing commissioner.

Neill is looking forward to retrieving his campervan, George, from the backyard, and visiting his children in Ireland, Hong Kong, Australia and rural Canterbury.

His last contribution to ECan was to name the former chairman's lounge the Otematata Room, after the place, near Kurow, where he and wife Di own a bach.

"In five years time that'll be all that's left of Alec Neill.

"At least I've left something behind

Nesting pair of red kites foun

Byline: Paul Tully

APAIR of red kites who became well-known to tourists and animal lovers have been found dead.

Numerous visitors travelled to the kites' nesting site near Whittonstall, Northumberland, last year, where they were clearly visible at long-range for several months.

But now their bodies have been discovered in the same vicinity of woodland at Hindley, near Stocksfield, Northumberland.

The bird carcasses have now been sent to the London Institute of Zoology for forensic analysis to determine how they died.

The find comes just a few weeks after another pair of red kites were found dead at Steel, near Hexham. It is believed they died after eating carrion illegally laced with poison.

Ken Sanderson, chairman of Friends burberry of Red Kites, said the latest pair were discovered at different times but in the same wooded area. "The birds were wing-tagged, so we have been able to identify them," he said.

"One is Ziggy, who nested with another kite, Jammy Dodger, near the Highland Cattle Centre close to Whittonstall last year.

Replica Cartier Pasha Watches

"The other is Ponteland Sunrise, who had nested there this year after the first kite, Jammy Dodger, left.

"At least one chick will, inevitably, also have perished. We were not sure how many chicks were in the nest but we believe one had hatched and possibly more.

"The tree-climbers have not gone up to see yet. I have asked for the forensic investigation to be fast-tracked and we are now awaiting the results."

The dead kites, among dozens of others, had been adopted and named by local schools as part of a development programme run by the Friends of Red Kites. After Ziggy and Jammy Dodger nested at Whittonstall in spring last year, numerous visitors used the vantage point provided by the Highland Cattle Centre on the opposite side of a small valley to view the isolated nest high in trees.

James Leonard, RSPB Investigations Officer, said: "It is another unfortunate and tragic incident. If anyone knows anything at all about how these birds died, please contact us.

"The kites are an essential part of the heritage of Northumberland and it is essential that we understand why they have died.

"It would be unusual for a pair of healthy birds with a newly-hatched chick to have died naturally but we will know more when we receive the results of the forensic tests."

Northumbria Police wildlife co-ordinator Don Churchill said: "We ask anyone who can help with information to contact us on 0345 604 3043."

Is IPL paying Modi to use his

Beleaguered Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi's ostentatious ways are not limited to having a very expensive office in the ultra-chic Four Seasons Hotel in Worli.

Guess how he travels around India and the world? In a 13-seater Bombardier Challenger 300 private aircraft. If that's not available, then a Falcon 2000.

The Bombardier has been leased by Golden Wings Pvt Ltd, based in Vile Parle (east). It's a three-year-old company owned by a Malayali Pradeep Ramchandra Thampi. Golden Wings, in turn, leased the aircraft from the Dublin-based Peel Aviation Ltd and financed by the US-based Guggenheim Partners.

According to information with DNA, Peel is a shell company that is, in turn, owned by a tax haven firm called Golden Eagle. The line linking Golden Wings with Golden Eagle is the first coincidence.

Or is it? Modi's detractors have launched a whisper campaign that the aircraft - which is often paid for from IPL's resources - is actually owned by him, though it is shown as owned by Peel. DNA could not independently verify this.

Replica watches

But consider this: the Rs90 crore Bombardier carries the registration number (callsign) VT-RAK and the serial number 20174. The VT part is easy: it stands for Victor Tango, a call sign prefix for all aircraft based out of India.

But RAK can stand for anything - the name of the company or the owner. Does it represent the initials of Modi's three children Ruchir, Aliya and Karima (a step-daughter)?

Sheer coincidence? Thampi says he has no idea if Modi is the real owner of the aircraft because Golden Wings' lease deal starts and ends with Peel Aviation.

"As far as I know, Modi does Replica watches not own an aircraft in India," Thampi said, adding , Modi has been chartering aircraft from him (even before Golden Wings was formed) "since the last 10-12 years".

Peel Aviation's purchase of the 2007 Challenger was financed by the Chicago (US)-based Guggenheim Partners, which has an office in Atlanta building in Nariman Point, Mumbai

And each time Modi/IPL uses it, the bill is fat - Rs 3 lakh per hour. "This IPL season, he may have used our aircraft for 40-50 hours," said Thampi. "He holds a running account with us."

If the aircraft's ownership is linked to Modi in anyway, it means IPL is paying Modi to use his own aircraft.

Beyond the IPL season, Modi regularly takes off alone or with family. In all, sources said Modi has flown at least a 500-700 hours in the Bombardier plus Falcon in the last two to three years as he propagated the tournament and went on personal trips such as to Phuket in Thailand recently.

The math is clear: A spending in the range of Rs 15-20 crore. The plane is unavailable Replica watches at least till May-end, Golden Wings said.

A person from Lalit Modi's circle, who is aware of the existence of the Bombardier, said it was mostly being "used by his relatives and friends in north - Rajasthan and Delhi,"

Meanwhile, for office, Modi primarily operates from the 32nd floor of the tony Four Seasons Hotel in Worli, central Mumbai. Now this is actually a private club akin to Belvedere Club at The Oberoi, Mumbai.

According to sources, Modi in most likelihood occupies the presidential suite on the 32nd floor of the hotel. The suite is spread across an area of app

NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES

CONCORD, N.C. - Kyle Busch stayed calm even when nothing was going right. He even told his crew they could do something they've never done before: Come back from two laps Palermo down to win.

"Let's do it," Busch said.

Then he did. Busch overcame some early troubles to win the Nationwide race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, his second straight victory in NASCAR's second-tier series.

Busch, the defending series champion, battled back for his fifth win of the season. He has won four of the last eight events.

Brad Keselowski finished second, followed by Joey Logano, Justin Allgaier, Ryan Newman and Kevin Harvick.

watches-t

Busch went a lap down after an unscheduled pit stop early and dropped another lap when he got penalized for speeding on pit road. Showing plenty of poise, Busch got back on the lead lap, moved to the front with a speedy pit stop late and then held on over the final 58 laps.

Busch and Keselowski stayed out when others pitted with about 15 laps to go. But none of those cars had anything for the leader.

Keselowski had one last chance on the final restart, but Busch him off during a green-white-checkered finish thanks to 深圳盐田搬家公司 some blocking help from teammate Logano.

"It was all about the restart and he just beat us," said Keselowski, who was hoping to get team owner Roger Penske's big weekend off to a strong start.

Keselowski remained the series points leader - he leads Busch by a point - and might be able to pull away as Busch turns his attention solely on his Sprint Cup team.

"I'm really going to miss him," Keselowski said. "We bring out the best and worse in each other."

Busch called walking away a "bummer," but said it was something he needed to do to avoid the strain that would come with trying to drive both series at different tracks over the next month.

New goals for Tennessee parks

By Pam Sohn

Tennessee will have to find creative ways to develop new partnerships to maintain its state parks and achieve new recreation goals in the coming decade, according to a new 10-year plan.

"Parks have been underfunded in Tennessee for many years," the plan states.

The "Tennessee 2020: Vision for Parks, People & Landscapes" notes that the state's parks generate $37 in "positive economic impacts" for every $1 the state invests in running them. However, at current funding levels, parks will be "challenged to maintain their high standards of excellence in future."

chloe paddington

While the report calls for "partnerships" to help support the parks, it also states the General Assembly should enact a dedicated funding source for parks and recreation and should restore permanent funding to the Heritage Conservation trust, the Local Parks and Recreation Fund and the State Lands Acquisition Fund.

It also states the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will recruit a committee of the state's business leaders to provide advocacy for Tennessee parks and recreation.

TDEC Commissioner Jim Fyke called the plan "a catalyst," and Gov. Phil Bredesen, in a letter inside the report, states the plan supports creative solutions to support the state's 53 parks.

"I am a strong believer in developing partnerships and leveraging resources to accomplish conservation goals, and this plan supports that philosophy," he said.

Rep. Richard Floyd, R-Chattanooga, and secretary of the House Conservation and Environment Committee, said he has a passion for parks, but this is not the time to be talking about raising new fees or taxes to increase funding for them.

"Of course right now, we're talking about having this done by 2015. Hopefully, we're going to be in a whole lot better economic situation in the next couple of years. There's no way we could create a funding mechanism right now that's going to meet the goals we have set out," he said.

Rep. Floyd agreed that the state has a critical need to fund parks.

"I think we owe it to the citizens of the state to have a park system that's second to none," he said.

In 2007, Tennessee's state park system was cited as the best in the U.S

But the 120-page report says the park system currently faces a more complex array of management issues than ever before.

Some of the facilities are an economic drain on the system and may need to be eliminated, while others are growing old and are creating a large maintenance backlog.

Two regional state parks got specific mentions in the plan.

Cumberland Trail State Park, which began in 1998 with an ambitious project of amassing a 300-mile trail crossing 11 Tennessee counties from the Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky border to Signal Point, is offered as a partnership example.

About half of the trail is complete. Over the next eight to 10 years, the state will work with the Cumberland Trail Conference and other volunteers to solicit public and private support to acquire land additional land to complete the trail.

WINNIPEG -- Dow Chemical's plans to grind away those straw bales sitting in a field in Elie were interrupted with Wednesday's fire, but the company will get back to the job as quickly as possible.

Company spokeswoman Shawna Bruce said the Spain fire destroyed the remote-controlled horizontal grinder that the RCMP said caused the fire, adding Dow will get a new grinder into the fields as soon as one is available.

The chief of the Cartier fire department said 400 bales were destroyed in the fire, which began at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. That figure is slightly more than the number the Dow grinder turns into compost every day.

PERFECT FORMS

Northeast senior Nicole Sohn is not your typical mean and nasty thrower. In fact she's the opposite of the gruff and grunting stereotypical shot put athlete. All season, Sohn brought an infectious smile into the throwing circle that translated into an undefeated stretch in county competition and her first state title.

For Broadneck junior Matthew Centrowitz, his developing endurance, strength, finishing speed and maturity were on display all season, and he too won his first track and field state crown (1600-meter run), went undefeated in every race, while also setting two county records. For their efforts both athletes have been named the Capital-Gazette Newspapers performers of the year for indoor track and field.

The week before the county championships at the Baltimore County versus Anne Arundel County challenge, Sohn threw a personal best 39 feet, 8.5 inches, a foot and three inches further than the county record set by Old Mill's Cathy Porter (38-5.5) in 1996.

But unfortunately for Sohn the county record can only be broken at the county championships; and her winning toss on that day was well short (37-7.5).

In the final two meets of the season she again threw further than the county record, with the only real blip on her radar screen coming at the 2A-3A region meet, where she finished second (38-9.75 inches) to Potomac's Rachelle Wright. However, Sohn bettered Wright the following week at the state finals with her winning toss of 38- 10.5.

Her improvement from last year - a whopping 4 feet, 4.5 inches - and the goal is to throw even further outdoors.

"Her major goal is to break the 40-foot barrier," said Northeast coach Josh Alcombright. "But all the credit thus far goes to (assistant coach) Elmer McPhail. He's been working with her for a long time."

cheap replica gucci whatches

McPhail, who hails from a distance running background, has transformed himself into a credible throws coach by attending clinics and reading up on the event as much as possible.

"I'd never be where I am today if it wasn't for coach McPhail," said Sohn. "He's been with me for four years and he pushes me to be my best because he wants the best for me. He's done an amazing job with all of our throwers over the years. And he's a good person."

McPhail has encouraged Sohn to take on a more aggressive approach, but the sweet and happy go-lucky Sohn just can't make herself any nastier.

"I don't get mean. Coach McPhail is always telling me to get mean, but I'm just not that kind of person. I don't think about putting on a mean face, I just try and relax and throw."

Sohn hopes to throw next year at UMBC where she would not be the top thrower right away, unlike some other local colleges that have shown her interest.

"The girls are throwing farther than me at UMBC, and I want a challenge and want to improve. There I'll be pushed and that's what I need."

Centrowitz was barely pushed all season. He set county bests in the 1600 meter run (4:20.2), and 3200 run (9:40.5) and was just two tenths of a second behind Meade's Matthew Brinkley for the best 800 time (2:00.4).

On his way to claiming the 4A state title for 1600 meters, Centrowitz broke one of the oldest county records in the books, Mark Hendrix's (Old Mill) 1980 mark of 4:29.7. He also claimed the 3200 run at the county championships (9:40.5), breaking his own meet record of 9:46.1 set in 2005.

Hunter provides fireworks MLB

ANAHEIM - The fireworks show that followed Sunday's game between the Angels and Kansas City Royals was not unlike the nine innings of baseball that preceded it.

Considering the Angels had scored four runs in their previous three games, Sunday's 11-run outburst at Angel Stadium truly appeared to come out of nowhere.

Replica watches

Torii Hunter's two-homer, seven-RBI performance was downright electric. There were shades of Roy Hobbs in the sight of journeyman Paul McAnulty circling the bases after his sixth-inning moonshot. Like fireworks, an 11-0 win is not something you see every day.

"You have those days sometimes that you feel good, you feel like nobody can get you out," Hunter said. "I guess today was my day. It was a lot of fun out there."

Hunter torched Kansas City starter Anthony Lerew (1-2) for a three-run home run in the third inning, and reliever Victor Marte for a two-run blast in the seventh. His two-run single in the eighth inning capped the 3-for-4 performance, and his seven RBIs matched a career high.

Afterward, Hunter insisted it was mere coincidence that he had been selected to his fourth American League all-star team in the morning. If anything, he said, the Angels were inspired by a perceived act of Replica watches revenge by the Royals.

Lerew threw two fastballs inside before finally hitting Bobby Abreu with a pitch in the first inning. A day earlier, Billy Butler was twice hit by pitches from Angels hurler Ervin Santana - both mistakes, manager Mike Scioscia insisted. But after Lerew hit Abreu, home plate umpire Jim Joyce issued a warning to both benches.

"Three pitches inside, (Lerew) is definitely trying to hit (Abreu)," Hunter said. "I think it kind of woke up the sleeping dogs over here. Guys started swinging their bats."

On any other night, the story might have been Joel Piniero (9- 6), who threw seven shutout innings to win his sixth straight start. Piniero allowed six hits and walked four, stranding a pair of runners in scoring position in the second inning and escaping a bases-loaded jam in the third.

Then there was McAnulty. The Oxnard High School Replica watches alum and former and Long Beach State standout was making his first big-league start since 2008, when he began the season with the San Diego Padres before going back to Triple-A.

Earlier this season McAnulty was playing for the Angels' Double- A team in North Little Rock, Ark. The 29-year-old was hitting .360 for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees at the time of his recall, but his return to the majors began inauspiciously.

McAnulty struck out twice against Lerew before his sixth-inning at bat against reliever Kanekoa Teixeira. After fouling off a fastball, McAnulty skied the next pitch into the center-field seats.

"A changeup. I'm not too sure. I have a hard time distinguishing what I hit," he said.

Consider the first audition passed.

"Paul's a guy that is really interesting. To look at him or see him walking around, you'd think he was anything but a guy that's in the major leagues," Scioscia said. "But when you put a bat in his hands, he knows what to do with it. He showed it today. It's a lift we've been looking for."

Higher Taxes on Upper Income Americans Only Deficit Reduction Measure that Gets Strong Support

NEW YORK -- More than 7 out of 10 Americans (71%) say the economy is mired in recession, and the country is conflicted over how to balance concerns over joblessness and the federal budget deficit, according to a Bloomberg National Poll.

Just like the experts, Americans are torn about whether the federal government should focus on curbing spending or creating jobs, the poll conducted July 9-12 shows. Seven of 10 Americans (70%) say reducing unemployment is the priority. Four months ahead of the midterm congressional elections, the poll鈥檚 results show a challenging climate for Democrats. President Obama Sidesteps Cong

WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: Rick, thanks very much.

Happening now, questions for U.S. troops about gays serving openly in the United States military. We have new information this hour about a brand new survey that could influence plans to repeal don't ask don't book printing tell.

Plus, some of the alleged Russian spies now on the move amid reports that the U.S. may swap them for agents held by Moscow.

And what could liberal Democrat Barney Frank and libertarian conservative Republican Ron Paul possibly agree on? Find out when two of the most outspoken and provocative members of Congress team up right here.

I'm Wolf Blitzer. You're in THE SITUATION ROOM.

Up first, a key step toward allowing gays to serve openly in the United States military. Today the Pentagon began sending out a formal survey to all U.S. troops about plans to repeal the don't ask don't tell policy. Let's bring in our Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr. She is working this story. It's only a matter of time, Barbara, until gays are allowed to serve openly according to the president but this is an important step today.

BARBARA STARR, CNN PENTAGON CORRESPONDENT: This is a huge step, Wolf. As you say, President Obama has said he wants the restrictions repealed. He wants gays and lesbians to be able to openly serve. Today an important step in that direction. The Pentagon began sending out a long expected survey to 400,000 military members, 200,000 active duty, 200,000 reserve and national guard asking them what they thought the impact would be if don't ask don't tell is repealed and gays and lesbians are allowed for the first time to openly serve in the U.S. military. Now, let's be clear. They're not asking the troops, should it be repealed? The assumption is the commander in chief's view will prevail, it will be repealed. They want to know how the troops feel it would be implemented, what their problems and challenges would be. But what about this whole notion of asking the troops what they think? Isn't the commander in chief the commander in chief and what he says goes? We asked a former top Pentagon official about this whole notion of asking the troops for their views.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) LAWRENCE KORB, SENIOR FELLOW, CENTER FOR AMERICAN PROGRESS: It's a terrible idea because really what you're doing is giving the troops the impression that they can change the policy or alter the policy. Also if you go back and take a look at how the troops felt about other social changes whether integrating African-Americans, opening up combat opportunities for women, had you taken a survey those things, and you paid attention to it, those things would never have happened.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

STARR: You know, nobody knows what would happen. What if 90 percent of the 400,000 surveyed come back and say, hey, I Best Versace Shoes Online don't think I can cope with it. I don't think it's a good idea. Nobody thinks that's going to happen but nobody is really ready for that potential scenario. So what is this survey all about? More than 100 questions out to the troops, Wolf, and we now know what some of those are. Some of the categories had the question, what would be the impact on unit morale or readiness if your commander in your unit was openly gay or lesbian? If you had to share a room, shower facilities, a bathroom with someone in a war zone, another service member believed to be gay or lesbian could you do it? How would you react? "In a recent meeting to finalize a deal with our new national distributor and partner, an August 2005, USA Today article was brought to my attention where Mr. Twombly embellished the facts of his life. Our new partner was not comfortable moving forward with Mr. Twombly as CEO, so after careful research and much thought, I instructed our attorneys to proceed with the termination LED spotlight process. Our shareholders own shares of Hall of Fame Beverages, and Atomic Dogg Best Dior Jewelry Online Super Soda and Grandmama's Sweet Southern Tea are this company's featured brands... not A.N.D. We apologize if our former CEO has directed the focus onto his project rather than what he was hired at Hall of Fame Beverages to focus on for you."

"Over the next month, it will be clear that we're focused, and we're moving forward with a positive management team that understands this company's products and brands. I have not attended meetings with Mr. Twombly because I have been trying to increase the value of this company by working on a distribution deal, a marketing campaign and I have been focused on the production of our products. I will be in New York next week meeting with the national distribution partner and former number one NBA draft pick, Larry Johnson, finalizing our national marketing campaign for the roll out of our products. The marketing campaign will consist of cardboard cut-out stand ups, posters and stickers."

"Again we apologize that we didn't remove Larry Twombly sooner given his embellished USA Today article in 2005, but rest assured we are focused here at Hall of Fame Beverages, and our management team will only be getting stronger in the weeks to come."

200 pack angry meeting over ho

TWO hundred people packed a meeting in Brixham to oppose a controversial development proposed for a former holiday park.

Deemed a major development which would have a substantial impact on the town, councillors decided Wall Park (pictured right) would be the only issue up for discussion at the specially convened full town council meeting.

Northern Trust, a property investment, development and land regeneration company appointed by landowners Croft Ltd to review the future of the site, were invited to the meeting but failed to attend.

The outline application, which goes against the Torbay Local Plan, is for up to 231 homes, 14 holiday chalets, a care home, two bat barns and use of land for caravanning and camping.

Members of the public were given an hour-and-a-half to voice their opinions, instead of the 15 minutes usually allocated to residents.

Their opposition to the plans centred around traffic congestion fears, an infrastructure unable to cope with an influx of people, sewerage issues, lack of jobs for people moving into the new homes, loss of a vital tourism facility, and spoiling an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The town's lifeboat coxswain Mark Criddle received thunderous applause when he said Brixham relied on the fishing and tourism industries, adding: "Once that camp has gone there's no going back.

"We should be stopping this, getting hold of the people that own Centre Parcs or whatever and saying to them come to Brixham."

A former Wall Park employee insisted it is a 'farce' to say the site was not viable.

"The parent company had a five-year plan of moving funds around and making Wall Park look unprofitable, when it actually was," he claimed.

"There was no investment in the site for a number of years, apart from some minor works done."

Another member of the public claimed: "The park is on an outstandingly beautiful piece of coastline, Dartmoor is right behind us, Dartmouth is next to us and Torquay is just across the harbour.

"Two monkeys and a gibbon could run this park and make a living."

Dr Nigel Gore, the vicechairman of governors at Brixham College, and Chris Forster, the chairman of Brixham Rugby Club, both told the audience that land off Centry Road, included in the plans, is earmarked for sport and leisure use in the Torbay Local Plan.

Mr Gore said this came after a survey which highlighted an acute shortage of pitches in Brixham.

"The governors and staff need assurances that if the plan goes ahead the proposed field in Centry Road is protected and safe access for 1,050 students will be paramount, both during and after construction," he said.

Cllr Chris Bedford summed up strong public sentiment saying: "It is without question over-development for that part of town given the present infrastructure.

"Traffic congestion in Brixham is outrageous already.

"There is concern within the medical profession. The primary care trust has made it very clear to us that it is at its limit now.

"The doctors cannot cope with any more people, but with this development we are looking at another 1,000 residents.

"We might be able to fit more children into the primary s

The 47th annual Mountain State Art & Craft Fair opened Thursday at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center grounds in Ripley, drawing artists and artisans from around the state to display their various talents.

The three-day event, established in 1963 as part of the West Virginia Centennial celebration, showcases traditional and contemporary Appalachian arts and crafts through product displays, demonstrations and entertainment.

That first-year, 54 artisans and craftsmen participated in the event. This year, there are 135 participants registered to display crafts and products from woodworking and jewelry to musical instruments and skin care.

Martha McGoskey, 83, and her husband George, 83, of Ravenswood have participated in the event for 44 years now, only missing one year when George was recovering from a heart attack.

Martha McGoskey started serving hot dogs, but after two years decided to try her hand at weaving and hasn't stopped since.

"I told them they can have the dogs and I'll take the woof," she said, referring to the yarn used to weave fabric.

Christina Casto, 56, of Kenna owns her own business, Christina's Carving,

This is her 17th year at the fair.

With a background in art studies, she took up woodworking 18 years ago as "just another medium" and hasn't stopped since.

"I just fell in love with it," she said.

"I started working with it and it's addictive. And it's great therapy."

Casto demonstrated her technique Thursday morning, showing fairgoers how she can start with a stump of bass wood and turn it into a statuette of a clown.

The Art & Craft fair runs through Saturday with hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Above, Martha McGoskey, 83, and her husband George have participated in the Art & Craft fair for 44 of the past 45 years, missing it only once when George was recovering from a heart attack. Here she threads her loom as part of a weaving demonstration. While she said she does mostly shawls, she can weave anything from small bags to blankets.

Left, Brandi Baker, 11, and her grandmother, Linda Baker, 61, of Parkersburg conquer their fears of snakes and touch Monty, one of the subjects of the Sad Mad Glad book series. Local authors Chuck Stump and Jim Strawn have a booth at the fair to promote their books, designed to help children learn the benefits of having positive attitudes and making sound life decisions.

Anticipation heightens as Jaeb

Fans are in a frenzy as they await the arrival of Park Jaebum (aka Jay Park), former leader of boy band 2PM, who is returning to South Korea for the first time after nine months since he was embroiled in a controversy.Jaebum left South Korea in September just days after his supposed derogatory comments about South Korea were revealed.

The comments were posted on MySpace when Jaebum was still a trainee under JYP Entertainment. The controversy forced him to leave 2PM and head back to his hometown in Seattle, Washington, USA where he now charts a solo career.Jaebum returns to Korea on June 18 to shoot for the American movie, "Hype Nation." He will be staying in Korea for a few weeks.Just hours before his arrival, Jaebum posted a message to his fans on his official website, urging everyone to get along and put the bitter things that happened behind them. This is Jaebum's message: Before I move on to a new chapter in my life, I want to just say some things and put my past to rest. First off, I'd like to apologize Cheap Jordan Shoes to all the fans and to 2pm for putting you guys through so much emotionally and mentally since last September. I'm sorry it had to come to a situation where we couldn't be together and I want everyone to know that I have nothing but love and support towards 2pm. Whether you like them or not they are good kids who work hard and I don't think anyone should take anything away from them. I also wish the fans wouldn't fight and everyone can just get along and move on. Life is too short to be angry, and there are too many negative things in the world happening and to add to all that negativity is something I don't want. I understand that this might not be the answer to what some of you are looking for but to touch the subject again will mean hurting people that I do care about, be it fans, friends, ex colleagues, loved ones and I just don't think it's fair to activate another roller coaster ride just when everyone is starting their healing process and moving on. As long as I am in the clear with God, my family and my fans, it is sufficient for me.? Also I would like to add that I was once young and naive and said some things that got blown out of context but would like to add that I am proud to be Korean, I love Korea, my parents are Korean, and where ever I go, whatever I do, I will try to the best of my ability to represent Korea well. Last but not least I would like to thank my fans, you guys are the reason I am doing this now, every opportunity from now on that gets presented to me is all thanks to you guys and I'm trying to make you guys proud and I love you guys! Thank you so much and I just hope everything from now on can be positive and that I can influence peoples' lives in a positive way. I'm heading for Korea in Replica DateJust Unisex Rolex Watch a couple of hours and hope to see you all! Love and Peace,Jay
